Official release update for Shopify version 2.0 delivering performance improvements, maintenance fixes, and platform enhancements.
Architecture & Performance Enhancements
- Polaris 2.0 doesn't reach your app automatically. polaris.js and polaris-1.js keep serving Polaris 1.1, and polaris.js never moves to 2.x. To update, change your script tag to polaris-2.js.
- Update your app for Polaris 2
Detailed Release Changelog
- Polaris 2.0 is now stable
- Polaris Web Components 2.0 is now available on the stable Polaris CDN channels. It's the first major release under the CDN's semantic versioning model. Polaris 2.0 matches the redesigned Shopify admin, which has a new frame, new navigation, and a new visual appearance.
- The following URLs now serve Polaris 2.0:
- <script src="https://cdn.shopify.com/shopifycloud/polaris-2.js"></script>
- <script src="https://cdn.shopify.com/shopifycloud/polaris-2.0.js"></script>
- Apps built from the React Router template: Set polarisUrl in both AppProvider and your shopifyApp server configuration, and keep the two values the same. This needs @shopify/shopify-app-react-router 2.1.0 or later.
- TypeScript: Install @shopify/polaris-types@^2.0.0.
- If you want your app to stay on Polaris 2.0 when later 2.x releases ship, then pin it to polaris-2.0.js:
- <script src="https://cdn.shopify.com/shopifycloud/polaris-2.0.js"></script>

Ecosystem Impact & Recommended Action
Target Audience Affected
Website operators, theme developers, and system administrators running Shopify.
Deployment Protocol
Test on staging and update following routine maintenance procedures.
Architectural Context & Staging Protocol
When evaluating new software releases for Shopify, web engineers and site administrators must assess backward compatibility, database migration overhead, and third-party extension interactions. Production deployment should always follow an isolated staging verification workflow to monitor server response times, DOM node complexity, and Core Web Vitals (including INP and LCP metrics).
All release intelligence indexed on WebPlatformLab is cross-verified against official vendor changelogs, public developer documentation, and standards recommendations from the W3C and MDN Web Docs communities.
